Here are the 5 biggest things I learned from running a social media agency for 5 years…

Celebrating the 5th anniversary of my Social Media Agency, GO Social Media Solutions! Here are the FIVE BIGGEST learnings from running a social media agency so far:

1. Bigger is not always better

More clients, more people on the team, more service options – that’s how you know the business is a success, right? But eventually, I realized the life that comes with it is not what I want. I wanted to work closely with my clients. I wanted to create things myself – that is what fuels me. The freedom to plan and CREATE with admirable people. All that while having a full life outside of business.

2. Don’t let years of experience get to your head

Especially working in social media. It’s easy to say you are an expert because you’ve worked for years. The thing is, it’s also easy to get stuck with strategies that do not work anymore. Keeping an open mind and being flexible is always a must.

3. You’re not always the right fit

As businesses evolve, so are the support they require. I cannot serve everything they require, and that’s okay. It is also normal for clients to discontinue their service because you are not the right fit at the moment. Eventually, when they are ready, they will reach out because they liked working with you.

4. Keep yourself visible

With a lot of competition for online content, the best way to keep yourself on top of mind is to be consistent. It’s not the people with the best editing skills that get the visibility – it’s the brands who keep going whether they have viral content or not.

5. You need your OWN definition of success

Not from what other people are doing or what people are saying what you should do. Success is how you define it. To me, success for my social media agency is earning well to support the life I want while helping, providing results to inspiring brands, and a well-provided team.

I am excited about what’s ahead for me and my agency!
