3 Costly Social Media Mistakes a Lot of Coaches are Doing

2–3 minutes

Social media can be a powerful tool for coaches. However, it can be costly when the right strategy and expectations are not set.

Here are some of the common mistakes I see in a lot of coaches especially the ones who just started exploring possibilities in social media.

3 Social Media Mistakes by Coaches

Confusing Messaging

If someone visits your social media accounts for the first time, will they know what you are about at one glance?

What to do instead:

You only have quick seconds of people’s attention. So make sure you clarify and simplify:

  • Your core message
  • Whom you serve
  • The value you can give
  • How they can take action

Focusing on the wrong social media platforms

Coaches tend to jump to other new “trending” social media platforms, thinking they will get a bigger audience when they start early.

This could be true if their target audience actually uses the platform.

There are also some coaches who try to be on ALL social media platforms thinking it will give them maximum reach.

However, doing this usually leads to burnout and little return since each platform has different algorithms.

It can be costly and time-consuming to keep up.

What to do instead:

Start with knowing where your ideal audiences are most likely to “hang out” in socials. Stick with building and cultivating ONE primary social media account and re-post to the rest.

Not delegating or over-delegating

A lot of coaches do everything social media-related tasks themselves without realizing they are forgetting other aspects of their business.

On the other side, I see coaches delegating everything, making them eventually blind to what’s happening within their community. They forget we delegate the tasks, not the responsibility.

What to do instead:

Assess which social media tasks you enjoy and can realistically focus on. Make sure that you delegate anything that drains your energy. Online agencies or freelancers, such as virtual or social media assistants, content creators, and lead specialists, can provide support specific to exactly what you need.
